My nephew was doing a project in his Afam class and now I know 340 years back into my history on my father’s side. Idk if he knows the magnitude of what he found.

As state govts turned "the wokeness crisis" into policy—banning books, distorting AfAm history, cracking down on academic freedom, chilling expression by gay teachers, etc.—
reactionary centrists could've reacted with outrage.

Nonsense from Pinker and his ilk is why I have sections on “Did Africans enslave their own people?” and “Were the Irish slaves?” in my Intro to AfAm Studies lectures.
the bit about Africans being active in the slave trade is telling. it’s something that is only relevant if you think the point of discussing slavery is to disburse racial blame rather than understanding history.
amazingly fucked up that the NYT is uncritically publishing the claim, “Race has some biological reality.”

17 year old me thought my freshman year AFAM history professor was a wizard when he asked where I was from (Chicago) and proceeded to correctly identified where my people came FROM (Mississippi).
