"Killer bees" or Africanized honey bees (AHB's) arrived in California's San Joaquin Valley in 1985, probably as stowaways in a shipment of oilfield pipe.
They crossed into South Texas from Mexico in 1990.

My wife got an email at work asking if they needed any fresh Asian giant hornet venom (???). Then I got to thinking about how we call them Murder Hornets. Then I remembered ‘Africanized Killer Bees’ & it was wild how they would always say ‘Africanized’. That was the scary part. Worse than ‘killer’.

You have to be careful with cross-breeding honeybee species. That's how we got the Africanized Honeybee AKA the Killer Bee. Bees are wild and can swarm and break containment.
