🧪 BEARDED VULTURE stomach acid is so strong (pH ~1) that it dissolves bone completely, extracting fat and calcium. This adaptation allows them to survive on resources inaccessible to almost any other animal.

NEW PAPER: using South African nest records, the authors explore phenological shifts due to climate change in the understudied Southern Hemisphere. Three of four selected bird species shifted to later laying from 1950–1999, likely linked to rainfall.

Artificial nesting sites (nestboxes) can boost breeding opportunities for the Southern Ground-Hornbill. In South Africa, nestboxes increased the number of breeding groups, revealing their value as a conservation tool where natural nest sites are scarce.
