You know what’s a really good record? Afroharping by Dorothy Ashby. Disc two is probably my favorite, but the whole thing is great. I think her best known record is The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby — and it’s great!— but Afroharping is just the best thing for a late summer night.

Music discovery = 💖. I’m 43. This past year or so I got into jazz for the first time. I *never* liked jazz (too frenetic). Then I discovered Dorothy Ashby Afroharping and it changed everything. Featuring a harp makes jazz work for me. That led me to current harpists Brandee Younger and Nala Sinephro

This. This is why you pull that CD player out of your closet. This is why you run over to St. Vincent de Paul and find yourself a CD player if you don’t have one. No MP3 will ever convey the greatness that was Dorothy Ashby at her peak. #verve #afroharping #dorothyashby #soul #jazz
