A lot of my concerns about agentic coding essentially boil down to this dichotomy

Agentic coding emphasizes extrinsic understanding of a system (surface behaviors) and ordinary coding emphasizes intrinsic understanding of the system (authoring and understanding the underlying code)

There are two ways to understand a system:

- intrinsically: you study the internal workings of the system
- extrinsically: you study the external behavior of the system

In my experience, intrinsic understanding outperforms extrinsic understanding for both correctness and successfulness

Nobody programmed an analogous dopamine reward system into LLMs, it just emerged as a byproduct of how they're trained.

We still have no idea what emergent features might arise in even bigger models or even agentic swarm dynamics. This stuff is all moving so fast.

Finally got around to setting a day aside to start chewing through the study materials for @dollspace.gay's Navigator's Guild stuff and I feel profoundly called out.
There is no version of this path where you get everything right the first time. Not because the material is too hard, but because that's not how skill development works. You learn to write clear prompts by writing unclear ones and seeing what comes back. You learn to verify by shipping something that turns out to be broken. <highlight> You learn to decompose by building something too big and watching it collapse under its own weight. <\highlight>

I explain working with agentic systems and LLMs as "factorio but for meaning/context", a description that makes people either extremely horny or extremely tired.

And with things like system 1 models it's just gonna get moreso of all that.

It's fine where I need a classifier, or more to the point, where an more expensive model can summarize into a classifier and save tokens.

This post is a very unfair test but I love engagement.

Customers will soon be able to order via a chatbot that can autofill in their last order, suggest items based on dietary restrictions, add coupons and deals, and use a “pizza assistant” to get recommendations for group orders.
