Airlayer proberen, voor het eerst. Vochtige grond om een vijgentak binden en als het goed is gaat hij daar wortelen en zo ja dan onder de wortels de tak afknippen over een paar weken en in een pot. Zo lekker, al dat gepruts! 💚

I decided to make a much smaller tree from old collected hawthorn. Here is how it went. Airlayer from June until separation in September

The second air layer I took from my maple. The first one was super small and may not make it but it was already dead on the branch. This one has great roots. #bonsai #airlayer

Just zoomed in to see that there are three separate trees here. How tall do you want your bonsai to be? That will make all the difference in where you want to prune/ airlayer it too.
March 18, 2025 at 7:29 PM
Another option for the tall, upright ficus is to airlayer the top quarter & have a medium bonsai ready-made & that would shorten the height of the larger leftover tree which makes the lowest left branch better placed in proportion to the new height.
Got that? Whoa, too much for a Friday morning aye
Went to the monthly Auckland Bonsai Society meeting last night.

Took the big ficus tuffy development bonsai along.

Both are well on track as they are.
For the upright tall one, I do remain open to the option of
1. Remove the left lowest branch.
2. Chop down to lowest left branch & start again.🌱🇳🇿

Exactly, prune or airlayer to the height you want it to start branching out.

You may want to airlayer it, and get a second tree out of it

Airlayer maybe? Are you familiar?
March 28, 2025 at 2:58 PM
Oh yes! I love to airlayer. I'm working on a wisteria and crabapple now. You're right, I should airlayer the Acer too. 👏😊

You could always airlayer and get a great jumpstart, just a thought.

Always loved rhodies, gonna hopefully collect some wild ones this year once they are done flowering is the best time to airlayer.

Indeed, Sour Puss I believe has stated the key. As we enter spring, it will soon be a good time to airlayer. And will give you plenty of time to grow roots before you have to remove it from the mother tree Snoopy. As well as, you should be able to air layer many branches to guarantee success.

Beautiful start, I have done same with my plumeria. Question for you if you don’t mind as I am new to plumeria. Can plumeria be airlayered? I have some extra long branches and a leader that are a bit out of control and I would like to make it more compact, yet only if I can reroot or airlayer them.

Me as well, and yet I also feel as though I’m destroying something for them if I come right out and say that they were duped. Normally if I leave a comment it along the lines of, “nice tree” or do “you know that you can get a jumpstart on your bonsai journey by starting from a cutting or airlayer?”🤷🏼‍♂️

Stackars vinbär..

Det blev nästan för mycket för den, när värmen steg här på balkongen..

Men..!

Jag ser ett par små ljusgröna knoppar, så jag tror att den klarar sig..

Very true ‘nd good point, yet I’ve heard many nursery experiences that struck me as shady.
Guess my goal with offering cuttings and airlayer as advice is to get them researching.
Found most don’t like hearing the suggestion to research before jumping in.
Guess I should find a better beginner way. TY
