"For decades in India, where I am from, caste elites have insisted that “merit” in academia requires the ending of affirmative action policies for caste-marginalised scholars

As Harvard scholar Ajantha Subramanian’s work on this issue shows, “merit” in South Asia is the logic of caste made secular"
Jason Arday’s death is institutional murder
Arday was subjected to a vicious campaign fuelled by anti-Black racism.

This fantastic piece from @jesshardie.bsky.social and Ajantha Subramanian lays out why I'm supporting the academic boycott of Columbia, in solidarity with the faculty, staff, and students Columbia's admin and board have victimized.

I'm not on X, but have known my share of Indian Americans whose families migrated to 'escape' reservations and sound very much like Ajantha S's interviewees in The Caste of Merit. I wouldn't be surprised if the techbros in this debate are also aligned, but have missed the main brouhaha.
