At a local ceremony hosted by Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini Algonquin First Nation, we were reminded that Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 & was created by Indigenous people. The National Day for Truth & Reconciliation was proclaimed in 2021 by the federal government but there was decent consultation

Very grateful to have had some cultural elements survive in my family for 300+ years but it's not enough and never will be enough. At the same time, I'm white and would never claim to be actively involved in métis or algonquin/wyandot communities beyond my personal family stories being passed down.
