Amongst the more interesting titbits, the master of Solong was the watchkeeper at the time and Solong had no dedicated lookout to assist in conditions of patchy visibility.
It's noted that Immaculate also had a solitary watchkeeper whilst sitting at anchor, make of that what you may.

With the ship/gangway incident, I got to use one of my favorite obscure nautical terms. When a vessel strikes an object that’s also in motion, it’s a collision. When a vessel strikes something stationary, it’s an allision. Little trivia for ya in honor of Sail 250.
