In 2003, I published a paper on an incomplete large theropod tibia recovered from the Lower Cretaceous Hastings Group (part of the Wealden). It likely belongs to a member of the Allosauridae + Carcharodontosauria clade within Allosauroidea rather than to a metriacanthosaurid... cont #dinosaurs

My boyfriends answer was „carnotaurus“ @streisaurin.bsky.social

Mine: Allosaurus in particular (prob cause there’s so many allosauridae family)

So they consider it to be an early Allosaurid in that sense, as it covers any dinosaurs that fall within Allosauridae.

If that makes sense?

So it’s exact spot on the family tree is kinda unclear.

That’s why it’s classification is still iffy.

Because it’s classified as an early Allosaurid, but you have Allosaurus that lived in the Late Jurassic.

So it’s likely more of an early carcharodontosaurid, based on some studies.

Allosauridae being the superfamily of both.
