#alocasias
Never buying an alocasia from this shop again. I’ve had good experiences with their plants in general, but this one just immediately decided to pass away. Being shipped is just particularly rough on alocasias I think, they’re quite fragile plants :(

Speaking of plants, some unfortunate news on my new alocasia bambino pink: Literally as soon as I got her, she started dying. All of her leaves are on their way out, and I have NO idea why. All my other alocasias are thriving, so it has nothing to do with my home or plant care. Man :(

She’s tied with my alocasia black velvet as my favourite alocasias btw. I love all the alocasias I have, but those two have a special place in my heart. Both are also doing really well, and are either working on pups, new leaves, or both ❤️

Si un día te pones a trasplantarla fíjate en la tierra, que las alocasias suelen generar como bellotas (no se llaman asi pero ni idea tengo del nombre) y de ahí puedes sacar más

I tried not to spend the little money I have, but I couldn’t resist and ended up buying myself this little beauty. Alocasia… I don’t usually like alocasias, but this one…
Just look at this lil thing! It’s called ‘Flying Squid’ and looks like something truly Lovecraftian.

My only alocasia that’s struggling at all is my frydek variegata; she’s getting a bit leggy and has lost some leaves. I’m expecting to fix that with an additional grow light soon, though. All my various jewel alocasias, though? Just vibing, new leaves constantly, sturdy crowns, a few pups each

As I’m sure is obvious from me literally having….I think 6 now? I really have warmed up to alocasias as a genus. Turns out they’re not actually that difficult to get to thrive once you’re a bit more of an experienced plant parent. I was just scared of them because my first one died years ago 💔

No tengo favoritas.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore my monstera albo, and I love all my various monsteras (of varying cultivars and species), but honestly, alocasias and anthuriums have surpassed monsteras as my favourite aroids. Also a big fan of scindapsus and pothos

I can’t remember what else I got from her, but as per usual, the trend is clearly aroids. Listen, aroids of most kinds are just generally easy to care for, and they’re all so pretty and so different! I wouldn’t recommend alocasias or anthuriums to beginners, but most aroids are beginner friendly

Both my alocasias have new stems sprouting 🥹

I've also ALWAYS struggled with alocasias! I've always thought it was funny how it seems like if you move one of you houseplants even 6", it throws a tantrum! Lol

Thank you! I’m so pleased by how well they’re doing despite a lot of being shuffled around the house recently because of building work. (well except the alocasias which aren’t doing so well but I have zero luck with alocasias)

Las alocasias son preciosas , aunque no nos caben en la mayoria de las casas 🌱

Behold, the tiny testament to my impending hubris!

I bought a pair of tiny shattered glass alocasia corms when my corm survival rate is 25% (only gave it one go so far with 4 corms. Rough odds.). Good luck little guys. 🙏 I believe in you and the puddle method!

últimamente las plantas variegadas están cada vez más solicitadas en el mercado y la gente da mucho dinero por ellas, así que se están produciendo mucho. Ya es común ver alocasias completamente blancas, o monsteras como la albo con alta cantidad de hojas blancas

Come buy plants from my friend, Nikki! She’s also a neurodivergent therapist and such such such a good human

If you can’t buy, plz watch! The engagement metrics will help get people joining

Full disclosure I think I get $10 if you join but I’m hyping Nikki not trying to get your referral dollars

When harvest corms from your alocasias and one of them sprouts a leaf, but forget who's the momma. 🧐

Okarun is here to help solve this mystery!

I still can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’ve also really warmed up to alocasias. I always thought they were pretty, but I refused to grow them for ages. Now I have like 5 (I think?) different ones, and I’ve realised that they’re not actually divas, they’re just misunderstood. Now I love alocasias

Alocasias and I have a love-hate relationship
August 28, 2026 at 2:17 PM
Gorgeous. I love Alocasias, but I just haven't figured them out quite yet. Good luck!
August 27, 2026 at 11:55 AM
Omg please do, I always appreciate getting to see a pretty plant ❤️✨

Yeah no the frydek is a surprisingly good beginner alocasia! Especially since you live somewhere warmer (and thus probably with more light and possibly decent humidity), alocasias in general shouldn’t give you too much trouble ✨
