Amazon AppStream 2.0 announces availability of license included Microsoft applications
Amazon AppStream 2.0 now offers Microsoft applications with licenses included, providing customers with the flexibility to run these applications on AppStream 2.0 fleets. As part of this launch, AppStream 2.0 provides Microsoft Office, Visio, and Project 2021/2024 in both Standard and Professional editions. Each is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions for On-Demand and Always-On fleets. Administrators can dynamically control applications availability by adding or removing applications from AppStream 2.0 images and fleets. End users benefit from a seamless experience, accessing Microsoft applications that are fully integrated with their business applications within their AppStream 2.0 sessions. This helps in ensuring that users can work efficiently with both Microsoft and business applications in a unified environment, eliminating the need for switching between different platforms or services. To get started, create an AppStream custom image by launching an image builder with a Windows Server operating system image. Select the desired set of applications to be installed. Then connect to the image builder and complete image creation by following the https://docs.aws.amazon.com/appstream2/latest/developerguide/tutorial-image-builder.html. You must use an AppStream 2.0 Image Builder that uses an AppStream 2.0 agent released on or after October 2, 2025 Or, your image must use managed AppStream 2.0 image updates released on or after October 3, 2025. This functionality is generally available in all regions where AppStream 2.0 is offered. Customers are billed per hour for the AppStream streaming resources, and per-user per-month (non-prorated) for Microsoft applications. Please see https://aws.amazon.com/appstream2/pricing/ for more information.

Local file redirection is now available on Amazon AppStream 2.0 multi-session fleets
Amazon AppStream 2.0 is enhancing the end-user experience by introducing support for local files redirection on multi-session fleets. While this feature is already available on single-session fleets, this launch extends it to multi-session fleets, helping administrators to leverage the cost benefits of the multi-session model while providing an enhanced end-user experience. Local file redirection on AppStream helps deliver benefits by enabling seamless access to local files directly from streaming applications, enhancing user productivity and experience. This feature reduces the need for manual file uploads and downloads, providing a natural, desktop-like experience with intuitive drag-and-drop functionality. Users can more efficiently manage their workflows while helping to maintain security through controlled access to local resources and secure file handling between environments. This feature is available at no additional cost in all the AWS https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/ where Amazon AppStream 2.0 is available. AppStream 2.0 offers pay-as-you go https://aws.amazon.com/appstream2/pricing/. To get started with AppStream 2.0, see https://aws.amazon.com/appstream2/getting-started/. To enable this feature for your users, you must use an AppStream 2.0 image that uses latest https://docs.aws.amazon.com/appstream2/latest/developerguide/base-images-agent.html or has been updated using https://docs.aws.amazon.com/appstream2/latest/developerguide/administer-images.html#keep-image-updated-managed-image-updates released on or after September 05, 2025.

Amazon AppStream 2.0 adds support for fractional GPU instances
Today, Amazon AppStream 2.0 announces support for Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes, which are built on the https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/g6/, designed to cater to graphics applications that need smaller GPU fractions. Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes (G6f and Gr6f) allow users to utilize only the GPU resources they need, rather than provisioning full GPU instances. This approach helps enable better resource optimization through shared GPU capacity, offering flexibility to choose smaller GPU fractions (such as 1/2, 1/4, or 1/8) that align with specific workload requirements. Organizations can benefit from reduced costs by avoiding over-provisioning while maintaining access to GPU capabilities for applications that don't require full GPU power. These new instance types are available in 10 AWS Regions, including US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt, London), Asia Pacific (Tokyo, Mumbai, Sydney), and South America (Sao Paulo). AppStream 2.0 offers pay-as-you-go pricing, see https://aws.amazon.com/appstream2/pricing/ for more information. To get started, select an AppStream 2.0 Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes when launching an image builder or creating a new fleet. You can launch Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes using either the AWS management console or the AWS SDK.
