The bean soup example reminds me of the Amazon Q&A: “Is this waterproof?” “I don’t know.” You see this in high school sometimes where someone raises a hand or says, “I don’t know,” out loud. Yes, I know that Amazon Q&A emails solicit all purchasers, but it proves the point about reading for context.
