Basically, I don't think Ares would be all the popular, and even Amrel cant be much help in the face of over a hundred tortured souls yk. So the Numavinn family is still frought with chaos and violence even after Aetoris' death, so Ares has to really stick with it and be determined to make a change.

How bitter do you think one who had been at Aetoris' mercy for easily a couple centuries and served dutifully would be about *Ares* getting the spot of successor because their patron liked his mom most?? Ares is the only child between his mother and father, but he has an overwhelming number of half-siblings. The only one of blood relation he considers family is Amrel, and later her partner and children. He is the type post-bg3 to consider his friends (now that he has them) family.

And the best part is after Ares and Amrel kill their father, the tome would be the only written proof of Aetoris' plot since Ares makes it a goal to remove the high elf's stain/legacy. A book he had fought to destroy ending up being the only proof of his devotion to his patron after.

Canon Ares ignoring and writing off his half-siblings as irredeemable and incapable of the change he and Amrel are capable of isn't great, but at least its not as bad as directly seeing they *are* and being the road block preventing their further growth. This tome idea is great for Numavinn shit.

When Ares and Amrel kill Aetoris, the rest of their living half-siblings dont just poof go up in smoke. Some are set free, some still serve the Queen of Air and Darkness, rushing to her side, and others I don't think know what to do with themselves. It wouldn't be surprising if some banded together.

And yeah, his half-siblings hate him, try to kill him, regardless of Wizard or Warlock storyline, save Amrel, the youngest of (probably) thousands of children. But its not like Ares doesnt *understand*, he shares the same father. Its just a damn shame.

I refuse to do the math for just how many children and therefore Unseelie servants Aetoris created over his long ass life, but how bleak that Ares only saves 1 out of what could easily be thousands. How bleak that Warlock Ares sees Amrel the same way canon Ares views the rest of their siblings.

Only AU where a big brother Ares works and knows Amrel as a little girl is warlock AU where he is an active participant and factor in the future canon Ares saved her from(Unseelie matrimony and ascension, loss of humanity, the works), so. win some lose some.
I weep a little for the big brother Ares never got to be for Amrel, but also they are never fated to have a good childhood actively involved in each other's lives before they are adults. Ignoring the age gap between them and a few other factors, even in a happy Numavinn AU it just wouldn't work.
