Stable Singularity of the Euler Equations on $\mathbb{R}^3$
We provide evidence of a stable finite-time singularity in the 3D Euler equations on the unbounded domain. Using a physics-informed neural network (PINN) with a self-similar ansatz, we find an approxi...

Interestingly, there are not one but two breakthroughs from openly human-led teams related to NS. BOT have released incomplete proofs early to maneuver around the openai "scoop". (The other is from Anima Anandkumar's group and has less drama involved.)

Stable Singularity of the Euler Equations on R^3 without forcing

Adarsh Ganeshram, Valentin Duruisseaux, Anima Anandkumar

"Our starting point is a physics-informed neural network (PINN) to come up with an approximate answer, and then to argue stability around that to complete the proof."

More than that, it's the fact that this happened extremely fast, using models that only got good enough to even fathom this sort of thing about six months ago.

Tao has been doing writeups:

Anima Anandkumar Turned Down Bezos Billions to Build Physics AI Instead
Two AI researchers turned down a board seat. They also said no to a $2 million salary and a stake in Jeff Bezos-backed Project Prometheus - and chose to build a physics AI instead. Accelerated Understanding says its new model, built on neural operators rather than Transformers, processed 5 trillion data points in a single prompt. Two Caltech-trained researchers turned it down anyway: a board seat, a $2 million salary, a stake in a $12 billion Jeff Bezos-backed company. That's not a small ask to refuse. They bet instead that the next leap in AI won't come from making chatbots smarter, but from teaching machines to understand physics. If you've spent the past three years assuming every serious AI bet runs through a bigger Transformer, this one doesn't fit that story. Anima Anandkumar and Benedikt Jenik just unveiled Accelerated Understanding, an AI system that skips the Transformer architecture powering ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude entirely. In its place sits a neural operator. It's a mathematical approach Anandkumar helped pioneer during her years at Nvidia, built to learn how physical systems evolve across space and time rather than how words follow other words. The claim that got people talking: in testing, the...

Anima Anandkumar has spent much of her career trying to bring two worlds closer together: artificial intelligence and science. Now, that work has earned her a spot on TIME’s list of the 100 most influential people in AI. The Indian-born scientist has worked on using AI to tackle some seriously complex problems, from predicting the weather and understanding nuclear fusion to developing medicines and exploring quantum technology.Following the recognition, Anandkumar shared the news on X, saying she was honoured to be included.
