I think in this case "ritual obscenity" is a very English way to hint that Iambe showed her genitalia to Demeter to get her to laugh, it's probably a myth origin for anasyrma; anyway it impressed Demeter so much she made Iambe a goddess, there's similar stories told of Baubo so they may be the same.

I’ll nitpick and point out that anasyrma isn’t limited to mooning: it’s ‘lifting the skirt’, so can apply to front as well. Back in the day I did a few posts on this, the first one having ‘anasyrma’ in the title but search on my phone is failing me.

So the story behind these has to do with a practise that has been going on since ancient times: Anasyrma, or skirt-lifting. Flashing the pussy was believed to scare evil spirits/devils/the gods themselves. Basically: Misogyny so strong it gave the pussy superpowers.
