Encouraged by very mild temperatures, I gave the moth trap a go last night. My reward was a single December Moth. Also three Light Brown Apple Moths and the winter gnat Trichocera annulata. #teammoth

The discovery of three Culiseta annulata mosquitoes was confirmed this week by the Natural Science Institute of Iceland, which said the mosquitoes likely arrived by freight.

1/2 #speciesaday no. 606 is Acrosathe annulata (Coastal Silver-stiletto). Nationally Scarce. Primarily coastal on sandy places by the sea, it does sometimes turn up inland on really sandy heaths. There are a few look likes but none are quite like this tiny yeti!

Can't get over the detail on this mosquito (Culiseta annulata), one of more than 30 species in the UK. This species over winters as an adult, but can be active in mild periods. If you're bitten at this time of year, it's likely to be by a female Culiseta annulata. (Photo credit: Alan Garner aka Dad)

Good morning from Greece

Violet Dropwing (Trithemis annulata).

In the 'obelisk' position, performed to minimise the amount of hot sun hitting its body rather than for my viewing or photography pleasure.
