They've missed out on doing some beautifully stylized hand drawn animation by chosing to use 3d.
Granted I think they used some impressive techniques for the anomation, but the animation was still one of the reasons I lost interest after a few eps

The other half, the magical thinking half, has maybe taken an elegiac turn. The sorrowful look at what they've done rather than what they imagine. Maybe returning it to magical thinking? That might be why I keep editing screenshots of ICE masks, turning them into caricatures.

I think what separates the fromsoft boss fight from a monster hunter boss fight is the game play and anomation time. Both good in their own right, but my preference is for fromsoft as I find the animation after an input is significantly faster

As far as I know you only need EX for multi page comic projects (you can still do comic pages in pro just fine, it just doesn't have the convenient page overview) and for 2D anomation longer than 15 or 30 frames.
Just get pro and if you like it upgrade eventually during one of their sales.
