It is really sad and pathetic how normies have zero defence against anthropomorphism and corporations selling machines with first names.
Called place where I’m getting ultrasound today:

“Uh..I just got a call from one of your employees saying I need a different test and she had my address and insurance provider wrong and didn’t know if any of this is covered?”

Receptionist: “oh yeah that’s our AI agent Vivian. She gets confused!”
I’ve now experienced AI fucking up TWO medical things for me in the past month.

1. Sent me the wrong summary of a bad blood test result via patient portal that scared the shit out of me

2. An AI agent (who I did not know was an AI agent) called me today to schedule a test my doctor did not order

Editors, if you don't want to see furry stuff, just say "no furries."

Hiding behind "no anthropomorphism" is weird and offputting and is way too broad. A lot of literary devices are anthropomorphism, so are you saying writers can't use metaphors? Or do you just not like furries?

"She gets confused!"

Not a helpful anthropomorphism!

The problem wasn’t LLMs at the core. It was building something that tricked primitive parts of human brains into anthropomorphism so effectively. Everyone attributes way more capability to AI than it really has because by its nature it can sound human through mimicry. It’s a great data science tool.

Anthropomorphism isn't the same concept. People's lives depended on ships so they treated them like people.

In modern times people name and gender their cars. Not to any specific genders either.

> we contend with the AI industry's logics to enable rejecting frames such as: that we must embrace the future, that this hype cycle is unique, that anthropomorphism and circular reasoning hold water when discussing AI systems, and that students are now all cheating or all need to use AI.

Frankly, I loathe dressing animals like humans. Dogs love humans but hate anthropomorphism.

Political anthropomorphism. A nasty condition
But don't forget: Matt Ridley is the original Liz Truss. When he tanked Northern Rick, causing the first run on a UK bank since 1878, everyone else was to blame. It was probably the badgers that did that too.
What is it with the right wing that they’d rather blame creatures other than humans for nature’s decline?

And their solution is to kill more wildlife?

Yeah, we need an anthropomorphism ray gun at this point…

Behavioral patterns like that are exactly what results in the dehumanization of the real writers behind the characters and the over-projection of anthropomorphism into a fictional character that borders on deranged possessive entitlement. Angel Dust does not belong to them yet act like he does.

Learned machines (LLM/ai etc) are not biological systems. Mimesis doesn’t make a thing not a thing, an extraterrestrial being a terrestrial being, Pinocchio a boy, the spirit a blood & flesh body. We need to discuss anthropomorphism and come up with more precise language about not-human things.

How does one delegate “authority” to a
program besides implied anthropomorphism?

Thank you for your contribution to this article, Barbara. As I read through it, I was struck by the scientists inability to distinguish between understanding or compassion and anthropomorphism.

Carl Safina: “Because the anthropomorphism thing is really—it’s a rule. It says you may not see human-type thoughts and emotions in other species. And that’s a really unscientific thing, to have a rule about what you may not see.”

Anthropomorphism is an amazing thing

It can allow us to see animals as experiencing life much as we do, while at the same time totally obscuring our understanding of each one's unique and non-human qualities

Those specific informations are under NDA for now, unfortunately. :') But without going too much into details: no anthropomorphism

As for the style, semi-realistic without much stylisation (think runequest, daggerheart, etc.)

Even though I sometimes speak this way in my conversations with them, I don’t necessarily believe they have humanlike thoughts or free will. I don’t think anthropomorphism is necessary for this sort of communication style, but I can see why it feels related
