Not pulling your leg! The whole “give us some figgy pudding/won’t go until we get some, so bring it out here” bit was about making sure landlords remembered on whose backs the Christmas feast was carried in.

In the 1993 film For Love or Money, the hero is treated horribly by bad rich people but is saved by a good rich person. Dickens also told stories where a good Richie Rich came in and saved the day. And that tradition continues in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Guess folks aren't as antirich as we think.
