and I find peace

aparigraha: non-attachment /
off the mat

can peace really be this simple?
(and will this state of being in this moment last?) 🤔

In a season overrun by attachment to things, I was fighting a personal battle with the love of a beautiful piece of jewelry that has brought me great joy. The earring was to be lost. That was destiny. What could I learn from the experience?

Wie steht eigentlich Yoga zum Veganismus?

Machst du Yoga, lebst aber nicht vegan? Dann ist Yoga nur Bewegung für dich?

Yoga is vegan

I know that every place you’ve ever bought anything from is emailing—and maybe even texting—you this week to ask you to buy more. Start to see that as their neediness, not yours.

Aparigraha is a yoga principle of not needing and not wanting. Be in this energy and #resist

Aparigraha means non-greed, non-attachment or non-posessiveness.

It teaches us to only take what we need and encourages us to let go of the excessive things, attachments and desires. It also helps us let go of something/someone when the time is right.

Bharani is ruled by Yama, the god of death, but Yama also means ethics. In the yoga sutras, there are 5 ethical principles, ahimsa (non violence), satya (truth), asteya (non stealing), brahmacharya (celibacy), aparigraha (non hoarding).

My abuela never used the word aparigraha. She didn't need to.

She watered her jasmine with unhurried hands, no urgency, no checking of bloom. I was ten, watching.

Who in your life has shown you wisdom they didn't have a word for?

The last Yama is called Aparigraha. Classically, it was translated as non-hoarding, Devi calls it "awareness of abundance, fulfillment" or generally gratitude for what you have. This is completely absent in the new leaderships messaging. I think of the boxes and boxes of paper in a bathroom...
