the arguments against arming ukraine are incredibly appeasement-coded -- like to an extent that i assume the people making them never read the original debates over appeasement and have no idea how much they're reinventing stupid ideas from rotten principles

Our position on generative AI remains unchanged. But an increasing number of organisations within the publishing industry are using the technology. In her blog post our CEO sets out why we want to see the adoption of cross-industry standards. buff.ly/DCPZPY2
this is key. the heart of the appeasement debate was not 1939. it was 1936. or even earlier. it was when hitler was weak. the reason appeasement looked so bad in retrospect is because by avoiding confronting him when he was weak they forced themselves to confront him at full strength. putin is weak.
As I understand it, France will nuke Russia if Russia nukes Europe, seperate and apart from whatever America and the UK do, so it seems like Russia will not actually nuke Europe for Dr Strangelove reasons. So no one should do any appeasing.

Calling the Trump administration’s approach to Russia one of appeasement misses the point. This isn’t appeasement. It’s joining forces. Eventually, Putin will spurn this effort, after Trump has destroyed the free world order. Until then, he’ll play along and enjoy the spectacle.

Great explainer here from @davidfrenchjag.bsky.social about the devastating harms of Trump’s betrayal of Ukraine and NATO allies and appeasement of Russia. It’s not America First. It’s Trump first. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/15/o...

I’m leading my colleagues in demanding the President rescind the disastrous Russian diesel deal. Appeasement spurs Putin to ignore serious peace talks, & the diesel debacle shows abject weakness. 1/

No it's time for EU leaders to be honest and get on board with what is being said, as they all keep saying about Russian, "appeasement only makes it worse".

He’s been planning to betray Ukraine and NATO all along anyway. Europe must stand up to him like Zelensky just did. Appeasement only feeds Trump’s evil ego.
