They apparently didn't understand either. Every one I ever met called himself an A-rabber. The term has 19th Century origins more related to the nomadic/bedouin aspect of the roving trade than race. Certainly it's a term the men themselves embrace. The Arabber Preservation Society represents them.

We had an extremely Baltimore moment this year during second seder: opened the door for Elijah right as an Arabber was passing by.
...then the cart comes into view and rolls right past the whole crew. Exec turns to me and is convinced: "You hired that guy to do that."

Baltimore is ridiculous and broken and... beautiful. I love it and I love visiting there. Looking forward to Baltimore Comic Con @baltimorecomiccon.bsky.social this September, the only big national Artist Alley I'm taking time off for this year! Otherwise, it's nose to the grindstone.
