A large chunk of my beautiful immigrant family landed in San Diego today for my niece’s Bharatanatyam recital (arangetram - literally means ascent to the stage). She held the stage, solo, for 2.5 hours, with the longest piece (varnam) lasting 40 minutes! Incredible!

I love classical Indian dancing, especially Bharatanatyam. A girl I went to high school with had an Arangetram at our school and I was invited and I’ve never been the same since. I love the storytelling of it all. It’s so fascinating to me! My country ass loves storytelling so this is it for me!
