Technically I blew up Buttface long before that so it's fine.

I've never read any of the comics but yeah apparently the Armorines were assembled to defeat X-O Manowar but I guess they joined forces at some point against the alien spiders and such I dunno.

I can't believe you orphaned Buttface!

Also, what, the Armorines are from X-O Manowar originally!?

Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. (N64) (1999)

4/4
A long and tall tunnel inside the alien hive, looking like it's made out of bones and spikes and a creamy, spiky plant-like thing on the left as you blast a couple of rockets in a big explosion at two gooey, pink-ish creatures with small hind legs, longer spiky front legs and a bulbous body with a red "face" with a butthole in the middle. I kid you not, if there ever was a sphincter-shaped character in a game, this one's it, so I endearingly call him Buttface. Another boss fight in a dark rocky, jungle area with a big tree in the distance that's barely visible (this game is very dark most of the time), where a spider-like creature with a Predator like head with mandibles and four big green eyes stalks you with its invisibility power and jumps out to chomp on you, but instead you unleash a barrage of bullets from your machine gun arm, causing a splash of green gooey alien blood to splatter from its legs. The final boss is a giant spider creature with a round body right out of a Lovecraft novel, with numerous green eyes of different sizes, three fleshy snout-tentacles on top of its head (that you can blow up) and a boney bottom with a prolapsed anus (I'm so, so sorry for making you read this) sticking out, possibly hinting that this is Buttface's momma. You defeat Buttface's mom as the boney claws from the ceiling collapse and impale the creature, causing a gush of green blood and electricity to start sparking around it, showing Private Tony Lewis in his golden Armorines armor (without any nipple reinforcements this time) running for dear life as the alien is about to explode.

Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. (N64) (1999)

3/4
A dark, alien chamber with spiky rocks in the middle and a white sandy floor, filled with a little black tick-like creatures, swarming around a beeping remote detonated mine, sending signals that attract the little buggers except for this little smartass that gets near you and wants to be your friend, not knowing that you're about to blow up his extended family to kingdom come. A frozen canyon full of nasty, nasty black spider-like creatures with their bellies pink and red, looking like they've been dissected on your high school biology classes, jumping at you with furious fervor. As if the vast desert and ruined pillars weren't enough of a hint of you being in Egypt, there's a rather small sphynx just chillin' there with a calm, smiling face like it did a really good poop today. The seren poop vibes are interrupted by one of the xenomorph-like spider aliens as you blast a little blue photon shot at it's head. The volcano boss arises from the lava lake, a giant ant-like bug with antlers and big, bull-like white horns on the side of its head, flailing its big arms with sharp white claws as it looks all sinister and nasty in the red glow of the lava.

Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. (N64) (1999)

The beginning of your mission, sending you to a Siberian base via a hovercraft onto a landing platform, showing a cinematic front view of one of our two marine heroes, Myra Lane, wearing a blueish-silver sleek, full body armor with special reinforced nipple armor plates and an almost Judge Dredd kind of helmet with a black visor, running toward the camera and pointing her hand laser at us. Woah, easy there lady! Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. (N64) (1999) I was today years old when I learned that Armorines is based on a Valiant Comics... comics by the same name, part of the big purchase by Acclaim Entertainment in 1994 and the push to develop some of these properties into video games, including Shadow Man, Turok and Iron Man and X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal. As a matter of fact, Armorines are a part of the X-O Manowar universe, where the 4th century Visigoth is kidnapped by the same spider aliens, taken to another world and in time manages to escape with the eponymous X-O Manowar silverish-gold power suit, back to Earth, only to discover it's now 1600 years later and he has to adapt to this new world, while the U.S. government sees him as a threat and assembles the Armorines team as a response (and later they fight the spider aliens which is kind of what the game is about). A buff, ruff and tuff marine stands on a cold, foggy platform in the middle of Siberia, wearing kevlar armor, a gray uniform and a Cobra Commander helmet with a face mask, holding his gun sideways like he's into that thug life. The Siberian base has been overrun by spider aliens, with a smaller species with a clamshell-like body munching on a dead scientist sitting near a wall as one of them turns around and is very happy to see you. The interior of one of the buildings has a big conference table with another dead scientist. As you (well, me, really) decide to blow him up with your hand cannon, lots of blood and giblets start flying around, including his legs and his head that curiously has a plastered texture of a man's face with a goatee, stuck on both sides of the blocky, disembodied head, showing two faces like he's freakin' Zaphod Beeblebrox.

If the name didn't give you any hints, this game puts you in an advanced power armor and hurls you at the invading army of spider alien bugs in first person POV, with a couple of said nasty looking giant spiders with sort of a xenomorph queen head, sharp white teeth and the signature penis-shaped head, crawling out of a cave, somewhere in Egypt. Another mission takes you to a dark volcano cave with not much to see but a bunch of rocks and a glowing orange lava soup flowing through it, as well as an alien bug with many spikes and hardened, rock-like carapace as if borne out of the fiery mountain itself. A dark frozen cave holds a huge and sinister spider creature with a bulbous body and many tiny little black eyes (eeeew), looking even more evil from the pinkish-red glow coming from off screen. Taking the battle to their home turf and infiltrating the alien hive, a dark and boney place full of spiky bones and boney arches, with your path being blocked by tall, sharp spikes as a swarm of little tick-like spider guys jump right in your face.

A real Acclaim "classic": Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. - so far, surprisingly competent for a PS1 FPS! All in the name of research for #DERELIKT ofc.

I have a weird soft spot for the Valiant VH2 (Acclaim Comics) phase. It's just so unabashedly 90s...

And hey, we got Turok and Shadowman out of it.

I hadn't found Uprising X in my research. Thanks for letting me know!

I actually briefly showed Armorines in the video but I wanted to focus in on the first instance of this being the default experience. Doesn't invalidate earlier experiments, just acknowledges where the shift happened :)

being a southpaw (ie: right moves and left aims) configuration dissqualifies it, Rainbow Six, Armorines and Medal of Honor (non-default setup, but it's there) all had it before Alien.

The one on the left. There’s some bangers in that issue too. Even Armorines to a lesser extent. Because the PSX version isn’t all that. Nice to see that you’re still drawing.

I've had a few but Armorines might be the one that stings the most to this day cuz it was the first game where I felt genuinely scammed paying money for it.
