I thought it fitting to complete this portrait of my mom that I started a couple weeks ago. We're 11 months into life without her. It felt good to 'visit' with her while drawing this. Reference photo below.

Still learning so much about pencil portraits. For this one, I started by shading the whole head and shoulders in a medium tone, then used eraser for highlights and 4B (soft) pencil for dark areas. Also used a blender stick.

I liked how the reflection of the electrical cord played with the curve of the bowl.

Still working on learning how to sketch portraits in pencil. This girl looks older than the reference photo, but at one point along the way she looked 60, so this is progress!

I haven’t posted in awhile. I’m slowly working on learning to sketch portraits. This is from a photo.
I’m pleased with my progress and still get intimidated in the early stages of every sketch.

This week I’ve participated in Sketch Week, led by Adebanji Alade. I drew this from a reference image he provided.
Follow him if you’d like to participate in his next Sketch Week. He does them 2x/year. Highly recommend!

Today’s theme was animal textures. I drew this from reference images he provided. The feathery one isn’t a whole bird.

Because my sketch paper is beige, the paint pen highlights are whiter than I want them to be.
I’m learning a lot!

Day one was drawing an eye and a mouth from a reference image he provided.
I’m pleased with this as my starting place.

‘Blind’ contour drawing with felt tip pen. For second version, I added colored pencil, while peeking.
I like both. Do you have a preference?

Nature Journaling experience led by Melinda Nakagawa.
Blind contour drawing (looking at subject, not paper). She suggests that writing on a page you've drawn on makes it less 'precious,' helps relesae perfectionism & relax into connecting with nature.

Blind contour drawing of jar of paint brushes and chopsticks, with ‘sighted’ water color pencil added.
Rules broken:
1) adding to a contour drawing while peeking
2) I don’t put my brushes away with paint on them!

I began with this journal entry that helped define what I'll be doing for 100 days: exploring, playing, having fun, and breaking rules!
I broke a lot of rules creating these pages.
