ArthurBall — a two-day, 1,000ish-capacity, multi-venue music & culture festival in Echo Park on Feb. 25-26, 2006, curated by Arthur Magazine and produced by Spaceland Productions — was the second of three Arthur festivals in a period of 14 months. Our ludicrous idealism was nearing at its peak.

#arthurball was an essential part of every single day in our house. it’s so quiet without him here…. now when will all my cats know when to eat? how will we know if ceiling fans are safe? when will we clean off the final space with his orange fur remaining… not even knowing it’s the last one

#arthurball got up.

he was afraid of ceiling fans. anytime you picked him up, he had to look up and check there wasn’t a ceiling fan about to descend upon us to elicit evil horrors. anytime he entered a room with one, on or off, he had to check to make sure it wouldn’t hurt us before proceeding

#arthurball was a ringleader of sorts. always letting all the other cats know when it was time to gather to eat. sounding the sirens to empty bowls in the mornings and evenings. his meow even sounded a little like a siren sometimes. anytime he laid on a dark surface, his orange fur remained when
