Some lovely #artthoughts thank you, Kathleen
Note the angles in these ones, esp mouse & puffin (easiest in thumbnail). Big clear directional sweeps — straight up & a little right in tan-and-white; diagonally left to right (curling & splashing) in greens. Then a strong opposing diagonal or horizontal (the grain, the puffin's wings)

I am focusing on photostudies and trying to complete other irl stuff. Not really much energy to make some of concept projects.

The composition of this photo, including the colour gradient! is just charming

Posted this piece for #wangxianzine
Drawn during the same period as Binqiu, but it feels like it came from a parallel timeline.
Unfamiliar. Distant. Maybe that’s what makes it powerful

How the frame is over-filled. The billow of sleeves echoed in flame. The central diamond of cool lines. The boil of curves everywhere else. Those restrained little silhouetting holes between oranges. The embracing, engulfing background.

Quick #Sinners art, because I still looove this film

And then the way all the darkness and simplicity and largeness focusses towards the focal point: beast's face and beauty's framing hair. 3/3

Masks and marching! And what the little forward-tilt of the sun-faced figure does to the rhythm of the line.

Again, the *roundness* of everything, and the resultant carousel-dimensionality, and the way the angles (so many here) all bend and support and direct the eye to the encircling...

Nothing is fixed. Everything remembers.

Leave comments to your fave artists that you love their stuff.

Comment on their page/website/socials- even dm them if you're shy, but just tell them you love what they are creating.

I dm creator friends' comments all the time because their fandoms scare me 🤣

I love when people's photos are like their art.

An exercise: go back through your camera roll and look at photos you have taken of beauty (or because things were neat) and make a list of 5 main themes that emerge.

The way the animated separation makes you go searching for gradients and highlights in the final.

A completely pointless gif showing how I separated my colours in case I wanted to do a Riso print of this guy.

Want to post about other people’s art but don’t know how?

I find just yelling out the first cool thing you notice works well. (Skull!)

You can refine your thoughts later if you want, but just doing that usually thrills the artist and makes other people look.

The lovely obviousness and subtlety of this! the distinctive echoes: the wave curve of beast-hedge and skirt and bird wings and flower-hair and bust-shoulder. But behind that, the half-lost shadows, and swoop of misty branches in the same line. 1/3

A painting can be quiet and still change the mood of a room completely. That is the strange power of art.

Speaking of verticalities! Where are the uprights? And where are the rounds?

Love the diagonal offset/balance.

There are moments in adapting where you see through to how someone else saw the world—not their technique (how to draw a feather) but reaching through it to grasp their reference (what they see when they see a feather) & then pull it back through their thought processes into your style
