Oils need time to dry, so I rotate between canvases in a day.
Today was mallard oils and osprey studies.

Which stage do you enjoy most: sketch, early layers, or finished?

Re-inking the falcon before painting—bringing the lines back after gesso + molding paste. It’s part of my oil on canvas process! Do you add texture before painting?

🦋 The Chickadee Spirit takes shape! These tiny birds unlock hidden doors, where moths carry whispers between realms. Follow for updates as I bring this mystical artwork to life! ✨ What message would a spirit moth bring you?

From blank page to fierce detail ✏️🦉 A Great Horned Owl sketch, the first step before canvas. Inspired by nights in Florida, whispering with my daughter while owls called to each other in the dark.

Today in the studio, Sasha decided she needed to give me a challenge 🐾
I’m juggling pencils and dogs while working on the Osprey drawing for the large oil 🎨✏️

Definitely not an impediment… right? 😄

Do you have a helper pet too? 🐾

Worked on the wing this week—almost done! Next up: belly + duck butt 🦆 Added feather texture and darker glazes for depth. Still more to do, but it’s coming together. Excited to get to the feet soon! #artcollectors #wildlifeartist #birdart #oilpainting #asf_artists

The Osprey is in its inking stage ✒️

This drawing will also become part of a future Sketch Line textile design, like the Tufted Twilight scarf shown here 🦉

Scarves release next week, and the Osprey will join later

I spent some time over the weekend working on the Mallard. 🦆
I worked on the front foot and started refining a few details. Once it’s dry, I’ll be adding more color glazing and fine-tuning the textures.

It feels nice to be back with the paints again.

Studio update from the easel today:

I’m starting layout work for the Osprey in my Kings of the Sky series. This will be the large oil version, expanding on the earlier sketch and study. It’s always fascinating how a piece transforms from paper to canvas.
