Vesurath wanted to kill those he saw as unjust and cruel. He wanted to protect the innocent.

Vesurath’s power could kill thousands with a single breath. Asherath believes they shouldn’t be judges of man.

Asherath has less hesitation when it comes to killing gods.

Vesurath’s name is forgotten.

Reality: There were three. Asherath, his sibling Vesurath, and the Eldest one

Asherath is the only living god; he killed the others

The Eldest was a tyrant. Happy with ruling an empty world. He was slain by the younger two

The siblings tended to humanity until humans went to civil war.

You can also look at the syncretism where YHWH had a wife (Asherath) who...faded...as Judaism became more explicitly monotheistic.

Fascinating period...and the Levant was the crossroads of three empires, plus numerous independent cities and "four generation kingdoms."

Two parts

What people believe: There is only the Godking. The only beings close to him are Idolons.

Asherath takes on a mortal form called a Vessel. But as years go on the Vessels struggle to contain the power and so he “sheds” them.

Idolons are these empty Vessels. Powerful, undying but not him

Amen, brother. Just know we’ve been here before. A handful stay true to the word while the powerful and those in their thrall worship Baal and spend their time setting up Asherath poles in the high places.

As you say though, in the end the dark does not win.
