It's been a fun month of sketching with more character refining for The Curse Eater, we just need a bit more time. In the mean time, please enjoy some cursed Legend of Zelda doodles and many many stinky gremlins!

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou deluxe edition 5

This is probably my favorite slice of life manga. The conclusion made me feel weirdly amorous about the passing of time. Amazing series. Please consider reading.

Just finished re-reading volume 1 of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou by Hitoshi Ashinano in English official translation, checked out from one of my local libraries. It's really cool to see lots of the excellent Japanese stuff that I read through fan translations mostly online in the 2000s and 2010s not […]

The way you just throw that into a little panel on the left side, and your little details throughout the comic, kinda makes me think of Ashinano Hitoshi.

Today the Panelists discuss Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, a beautiful slice-of-life about an android living in post-climate disaster Japan.

In this one we've got gay robots, hot doctors, and HUGE persimmons.

I got to recommend one of my favorite manga for this year's Harvard Gazette librarian summer reading recommendations piece:

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou by Hitoshi Ashinano

I haven't shut up about this series since I read it and I don't plan to, ever.

165. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou 2

I adore the immaculate vibes of this series. The way it feels less about anything specific happening and more about taking in the world around you hits for me every time. The sci fi elements keep it fresh, and the vibes keep the pages turning. Amazing.

Our upcoming reads on the show!

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is in 2 weeks, and we read through Ch. 65.

I (Matt) am personally so excited for the episode on @keezyyoung.bsky.social's Hello Sunshine.

151. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou 1

I adored this setting and just the immaculate vibes. The general feel of the story of appreciating the beauty of the world around you at your own pace felt amazing and the art really lent itself to that idea splendidly. I will continue reading for sure.

We don’t usually get to see each other’s header images. Here’s mine: It’s a detail of a page from ヨコハマ買い出し紀行 (“Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou“ or Yokohama Shopping Log) by Hitoshi Ashinano.

I have not! I have several of her books on my shelf to start, but I have read parts of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, by Hitoshi Ashinano. It's sort of slice of life about an android after the economic collapse of the Earth.

Next on my reading list is "Kabu no Isaki", also by Hitoshi Ashinano. I really loved YKK for its atmosphere and characters and it sounds like this is very similar.

I've heard the ending is a major let down but it's about the journey for me.
