Nice to see us vindicated in ripping out our gas boiler and replacing it with an ASHP
As this graphic makes clear, gas - which is a very expensive form of generation - sets the market price of electricity in the UK way more than it does in other countries.

So now that my @octopus.energy bill for December has come in, I can crunch the numbers and understand how our replacement ASHP has performed over the past year. Last December the massively oversized & poorly fitted ASHP was removed & our local @heat-geek.bsky.social trained installer replaced it.

2 years ago, I invested £20k in a cash ISA. It returned £800 in one year. The same money is now invested in ASHP, solar and battery. We have already saved £957 since the end of March. (£507 in export payments, and another £450 in diesel we don't need anymore)

Like you we also had a proper pulse from the ASHP this morning with almost 3kWh of electricity, putting 15kWh of heat into the house.
Temp got down to 6.4C last night - it’s definitely autumn.
I love the ASHP - never have to think about it. It just keeps the house at a pleasant temp.

We have invested some of our pension in solar panels battery EV and ASHP. We were the first in our small close to get an EV in 2022. There are now 5. Our running costs are significantly cheaper, greener and our 1930’s solid wall home has been warmer than ever all winter.
