[pounds on table] ASSYRIOLOGY THREAD! ASSYRIOLOGY THREAD!

With special guest: Poop!
Today, I've been reading a very old medical commentary from ancient Uruk, written in the Akkadian language.

It's a tiny cuneiform tablet that explains words and phrases excerpted from another text - a diagnostic manual, known in antiquity as Sa-gig.

If you had $77bn you could squander without feeling any consequences whatsoever, what boondoggle would you throw it after?

Assyriology is to make an "ass" out of "yriology"

No, assyriologists are amazing. They share all those cool (or hilarious) cuneiform tablets

Also yes, hi

Im the kink artist who inexplicibly has a bachelor's in assyriology

Tho it has been a while :p
1. Cuneiform isnt chiselled. It's pressed in clay which was then dried
2. It's even funnier, cause most people in that era couldnt write, so he had to go complain to a scribe to have the angry note written down

I wish someone had told me I could have studied English lit or Assyriology or something

Ah, Assyriology. Nothing like it.

It took this very respected and esteemed Assyriologist 24 pages of closely reason linguistic analysis to conclude that the Assyrians just didn't have a term for "foot soldier."

As a field, Assyriology doesn't talk about butts nearly enough—especially considering it's right there in the name!

Well, we're rectifying that this week on Ancient Sayings with a fine selection of patootie-related proverbs. Enjoy!
DID YOU KNOW that ancient Mesopotamians had butts, just like us? They did, and they also liked to talk about them!

God I love assyriology
We therefore learn from this learned commentary made by a Babylonian scribe over 2000 years ago, that in the Akkadian language, the word shitti means "shit"
