The next day was Harvestfest the astrosphere feels heavy today despite it being where everyone is suppose to be thankful. But Kiera couldn’t let her mother slide about her behavior yesterday.

#PPOD: NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has captured the first image of an astrosphere—the bubble created by a star’s wind—around a star similar to our Sun. HD 61005, nicknamed the “Moth,” lies about 120 light-years away and is roughly the same mass and temperature as the Sun... 🧪 🔭

There is a ride in Maine called The Astrosphere which is a Scrambler in a dome where they turn on the black light and project weird shit on the walls while ELO's "Fire on High" is playing. Felt like being sent to another dimension (warning: strobe)): www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s6H...

I used to go to Funtown annually when I was a kid. Of course, the Astrosphere would have been a bit much for a six-year-old, so I stuck to the kiddie rides.

According to Wiki, many of the kiddie rides are the same ones I rode nearly fifty years ago.

A thunderous remix of Electric Light Orchestra's "Fire On High" plays for the ride's duration. Imagine being on a Tilt-a-Whirl during a rave. It's not the fastest ride, but it's probably the most intense.

If I had to compare the Astrosphere with any other ride, Willy Wonka's boat ride would probably come the closest. Under that dome lies an ordinary Scrambler - which operates in complete darkness. Strobe lights, a laser show, and eerie projections appear on the inside of the dome.

Re-igniting my appreciation for carnival rides, I'd like to introduce you to a family favorite for fifty years.

It is my pride and pleasure to present: The Astrosphere.

At Funtown in Saco Maine
One of the defining moments of the park’s history came in 1976 with the debut of the Astrosphere, an outer space-themed scrambler housed beneath a white dome. 50 years later, it’s still one of Funtown’s signature attractions. The ride remains frozen in time, with lasers, strobe lights, fluorescent paint, eerie wall projections and the Electric Light Orchestra instrumental “Fire on High” blasting through the speakers just as it has for decades. It’s rare to encounter a southern Maine Gen-Xer who doesn’t have a nostalgic childhood recollection of riding The Astrosphere.

I think this Neptune transit over my Venus (also activated by the other planets in the cradle) has helped me to be kinder and more loving towards others, and lately--especially with Jupiter's assistance--has helped me just be more pleasant and happier.

Saturn stationed on my Mars in Aries, and the insight wasn’t “stop, slow down” but rather “you can endure more,” so I’ve taken to jogging (most of) my route. I’m tired, but I am also napping/resting.

Got to ride the Astrosphere at Funtown in Maine again last week. It remains my favorite non-coaster ride on earth. I mostly avoid spinning rides now due to motion sickness but I popped two dramamine for an exception.
