That typo must've been Auckward.

This cinema was delightful, as was their hokey pokey choc top. #auckward
Then it was to the cinema, which was a lovely little place, where all (well, most) of the seating was comfy couches. We were the only people in the cinema for a 1pm weekday screening of a film that has been out for months, but that's perhaps not that surprising. #auckward

Auckward city …..😬

This afternoon, we're going to see the Australian Women's Cricket Team take on New Zealand at Eden Park. This, for some reason, is not considered "art" enough to be part of the Auckland Arts Festival. Clearly, they've not spent enough time watching Phoebe Litchfield's cover drive #auckward

Well, it's rainy as hell, and Auckland traffic sucks ass, but we're here* at least! #auckward

I’ve spent most of my adult life refusing to go to sporting events – cricket in particular – but Being Weirdly Into F1 has apparently made me more amenable. #auckward

Why, if it isn't time for a writeup of our #auckward adventures! I'm a day late on these, so I'll give you the rundown on how we spent our Friday.

As I apparently say a *lot* but don't really notice it until I'm outside Australia and I question whether it's cringe or not: G'day!

Time for a catch up of yesterday's adventures. #auckward

This was, as I noted after the show last night: magnificent. #auckward
But I'd like to say that the Scottish Ballet's version of A Streetcar Named Desire was magnificent. I truly love when you see a familiar story in a new form and it makes you see a new angle on it. #aaf2025 #auckward

The film was just as excellent as I remembered, by the way, and having the cinema to ourselves meant that I could nudge Sarah at salient parts and go "ahh ahh I loved that bit!". #auckward

But as you saw yesterday, this was actually a very tasty drop. #auckward
This is a very fine brew, especially for something I picked up at random at the slightly sketchy alleyway liquor store located between the kebab joint and the late-night vape shop last night. #auckward

Admittedly, less electoral advertising material for far-right parties than Trier had. #auckward
This was down in the touristy-shopping district area of Auckland, not far from the waterfront, which @sjhfletcher.bsky.social and I both independently said reminded us of Trier in Germany. #auckward

Just experienced my first go-around on a commercial flight. That was unexpected. #auckward

We then waited in the shadow of the looming Sky Tower for a bus to take us to Takapuna. #auckward

After the Aussies smashed the Kiwis (like, yikes), we left before the supposed "main event" which was the men's game afterwards. We gratifyingly got a "you're just leaving after the womens' game??" from an usher as we left. #auckward
March 22, 2025 at 5:17 AM
Then, we were headed to our first show of the Auckland Arts Festival (one of the reasons we chose this week to be in Auckland). #auckward

This was honestly the most welcoming brewery I've ever visited. The guy behind the counter (one of the brothers, but not one who's involved in the actual brewing) was excited we'd come from Australia to try his beers, and gave me samples of everything he had on tap. #auckward

The incredible luxury of being at the airport without having to wrangle two chaos muppets #auckward
Wheeeee! We are free of kids and heading overseas for a week.

I have spent a lot of time in NZ—Wellington in particular—but never really Auckland, so we thought we'd see what NZ's biggest city can offer us during the Auckland Arts Festival. #auckward

We didn't even really mind when during the scene of the final twist, the proprietor of the cinema came in to look for someone's lost phone and turned all the house lights up in a glaring flash for about 2 seconds. #auckward
