Bring back Authorware!

Macromedia Authorware & Director. Authorware was a great tool in its day (especially for non-coders). Also a big fan of iBooks Author. I know, technically, it’s still around, Apple stopped supporting/developing it.

I was a "developer" for 8 years using Authorware, well past its discontinuation 😂

To be more specific, we were using "Authorware", which was primarily intended for producing educational software. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_A...

A1: The old Macromedia courseware authoring tools - Authorware, Director & Flash. Better things have replaced them, but there was a simplicity to the creation process that was quite satisfying. #LTHEchat

Authorware isn't dead yet. There are communities in China, Thailand, South Africa and even Sudan. If you google for AW 7 source code, you'll discover interesting things. The Chinese even have several books dealing with Authorware 7 (incl. CD)

Should we bring back Macromedia? Did I learn Authorware for nothing?!!

A1: In the distant past I used Authorware - a sort framework for e-learning content, and more recently I've encouraged teachers to use H5P, which is similar in concept, but much better, and easier for teachers. I've not come across anything similar for students though #LTHEchat

So, the fonts on my phone are normal size, BUT…
my 1st tech job was using Authorware to make educational CD-ROMs, which segued into Director animations embedded in Authorware.
When Flash came out and it meant we could do what we were doing in a browser, it launched my career as a web developer.

I think the first computer I worked on professionally as a designer/programmer (authorware/director) was a CENTRIS 660 (AV)? Is that a thing? Mid 90s

I made so many weird projects in Flash during college for interactive design classes. It was a fun era for sure! I also used Macromedia Authorware for like 8 years for a job. That program was terrible. 😂

who also did the infamous Macromedia Authorware in the 90s
We happily paid $999 a year for it

Sounds like '80s HyperCard

Toolbok did the same some years later

(Macromedia) AuthorWare added the Flowline for programming,
every serious ELearning app(lication) was built with AW

Eventually we go full circle again, not AI programming with natural language, but dragging Components on a flowline

Macromedia bought Future Splash in 1996 and renamed it Flash.

will never forget, I was a Macromedia user all through the 90s
Was already using Macromedia ShockWave (in Director and Authorware)
Some interns showed me Future Splash in 1995
And I said "Too small a company, we're not going to use it"
