Yes. “Sportswashing” is part of the propaganda machine of these odious autocracies.
All tournaments should be boycotted if there is a single Russian or Belarusian athlete, and any financial contribution to organizations allowing their presence withheld until their policy changes.

multiracial working class oriented democracy can bring an end to rethuglikkkan autocracies perpetuating the jim crow logic
So, I went into tonight thinking that the Democrats were going to flip around 300 seats on the state legislative level across the country.

Yeah, double that. We're looking at at least 600 flips from red to blue tonight.

Who needs democracies, if autocracies can guarantee you limitless self enrichment, accumulation of wealth & power, a gangster's paradise without any controll mechanisms..
So bullying European democracies has become a priority for such as Trump / Putin.

Are democracies better than autocracies at promoting economic growth, alleviating poverty, and creating healthier, more educated, and more peaceful societies? On all counts, the answer is yes.

North Korea is being used as a spearhead by an emerging axis of autocracies hostile to Europe. Its soldiers fight Russia's war against Ukraine, while Moscow strengthens Pyongyang militarily. This is not an isolated conflict, but a threat extending far beyond Ukraine.

The whole world, with the exception of the autocracies that Trump fawns over and see him as a useful idiot, is unified in its view of him. He's a cancer that's infecting the entire planet.
Laura Kuenssberg, "The midterm polls suggest that President Trump might get a thumping"

Nicola Sturgeon, "He's destabilised not just the global economy"

"Trump takes loyalty and friendship as a sign of weakness so he ends up punishing his friends, much more than punishing his enemies"

correct

states further down the path of autocracy than us have had those autocracies overthrown by sufficiently large voting numbers recently

we can do it here too
The US is not about to have a free and fair election. The state has put its thumb on the scale to favor the ruling party in multiple ways.

It's a mostly free, somewhat unfair election. But still one where the ruling party can be overwhelmed by numbers. Hence the term "competitive authoritarianism."
It is atrocious we have to operate under this constant credible and explicit threat from one political party, the fact we keep calling it a “free and fair election” needs some light revising

A perfect and succinct description of the Catch-22 democratic governments find themselves in after institutional capture by autocracies. #USA next
Every route out runs through offices whose legitimacy is the very thing in dispute. Follow the captured procedures from captured institutions, and the captors run down the clock. Step outside them and you hand your opponents a coup narrative, and a precedent.

And he's been an outspoken critic of US support for Egypt, Pakistan, the Gulf states, and other autocracies in the region, so it's not like he's been singling out Israel, either.

He's pretty much the platonic ideal of the Reasonable Palestine Advocate!

Populist autocracies work by capturing the state and supporting oligarchy in pluralist network societies? They lack the (economic?) bases in society to become full dictatorships?

Looks like the remaining dictatorships are resource rentiers (RU, Gulf, VZ) or party-states (CN) with strong parties?
Just as in the case with Hungary, the U.S. Midterms show how we (me included) massively overestimated the authoritarianism of these far-right regimes.

Academia and punditry would do well to learn lessons from this.

Why were we wrong?

To win the AI race with China, the United States needs to deepen its partnership with Taiwan, writes Lin Chia-lung, Taiwan’s foreign minister. The island “is a force multiplier for the United States in artificial intelligence.”

'no levers' despite the fact some of those countries have done all they can to bribe the Trump family. I wonder if a lesson has been learned. Since they're autocracies themselves, doubtful.

Even in small personalist autocracies like North Korea there are factions and elite institutions that must be appeased by the ruler. Think you're dead on: Interstellar governance necessitates delegation and dispersed decision making, even if its by a feted elite.

Musk is a neo-Nazis megalomaniac aligned with Putin & Putin Oligarchs as is Trump. He seeks obliteration of all democracies replaced with autocracies run by him, Musk,& Putin. All democratic nations must sever any & all ties to Starlink & any security service of Musk's or Peter Thiel also neo-Nazis.

As accumulation of wealth& power is Trump/Putin's obsessive priority and as such gets accomplished easiest within autocracies, why should Trump be interested in helping democratic Ukraine and European democracies, infecting more neighbors, having them push International law&control mechanisms..?
The greatest and most destructive lie being endlessly repeated in the press is that Trump just wants “peace” between Russia and Ukraine. The opposite is the truth. He wants a Russian victory and the destruction of Ukraine.
