i feel a need to justify this because i’m insecure about it and also want to avoid allegations: the autocutter is not AI. as far as i can tell it’s JavaScript that detects silence over .X sec, deletes, then closes the gaps. a built-in feature of audacity, but $30/mo extension in video editing.

insert credit will be up sliiiightly later than usual. weird audio processing bug on zencastr’s end halfway through a file meant i didn’t notice something until halfway through the edit, and now my autocutter needs like three hours to adjust my workaround. apologies; expect like 9AM ESTish latest.

the autocutter is an adobe premiere plugin I pay $30 a month for. the only thing it does is detect silences longer than 0.3s and cut them out. there’s a davinci resolve version of it, but not for Linux, which is literally the *only* part of my workflow keeping me locked into windows.

converting files in Handbrake (40min) so I can stop getting errors when rendering my five-shot (20 min) so I can use my autocutter (2 or 3hrs) so i can have a prepped show to actually start editing (10hrs)

got a new tool* that saves me hours of work but has a super long render time, so my PC is untouchable for a few hours of worktime and i don’t know what to do. anxious steamdeck time!!

*feel compelled to mention NOT genAI or AI of any kind; just an autocutter that detects/snips out silence over .2s

This printer is great except that the autocutter is about 20mm away from the end of the print head, so that much is wasted for each print and you need to snip it off manually, lame.

Can mitigate it by combining prints together but still unfortunate.

FWIW, the next version of Ableton will have user extensions, and one of the first ones they’ve showcased in the beta is an autocutter. Ableton ALSO allows you to work with and export video timelines 👀
