Dr Who and the autons
September 25, 2026 at 10:10 AM
Forget Autons, Axons and Sea Devils, nothing says evil Gallifreyan mastermind Time Lord with designs on ruling the universe like conducting a meat raffle.
September 25, 2026 at 9:47 AM
It's almost as though they've never seen Autons, Terminators etc. etc.
September 25, 2026 at 8:30 AM
Betrayal-wise, I was there before you. "Terror of the Autons" was my particular shock all those years ago when there suddenly seemed to be an elitist bully wearing the clothes of my previusly trustworthy hero.

IIRC I think she was brought in as a lab assistant while he is confined to Earth during Terror of the Autons, so start there!

A dr who thing I’m a completely baseless truther about is believing that an early draft of Kerblam had the master in it and was a very explicit callback to terror of the autons. Because it is just worse terror of the autons
September 20, 2026 at 6:37 AM
I’m watching classic Dr Who with my son. He’s 8.
So far:
Remembrance of the Daleks 9/10
Happiness Patrol - 7/10
Greatest Show in the Galaxy - 6/10
Terror of the Autons - 3/10

Any suggestions welcome.

Tried to steer him to Ark in Space tonight.

But he’s insisted on Planet of the Spiders…

@kjaycee.bsky.social FUN NOT #61FILMSOFHALLOWEEN FACT: AUTONS SPENT AN HOUR AND A HALF IN DRIZZLE FRIDAY SETTING UP A NEW SMART BIRD FEEDER FOR THE SAUCER OUT IN THE BACKLOT, WHICH IS NOW GETTING A *SERIOUS* STRESS TEST FROM THIS STORM.

THE HORROR!... OF WONDERING IF THE ELECTRONICS WILL SURVIVE!

Episode 432DW - The I.T.T. Crowd... (Invitation to Tender)!
The BBC has been preparing to put Doctor Who out to Competitive Tender—and as of 17 September 2026, the process has begun. What does the Invitation to Tender mean, and why should Doctor Who fans be excited? Mark Baumgarten and guest Jarrod Cooper discuss much more than that on this very special episode of MarkWHO42. See the document for yourself https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=1a692e6bb9a72958568f762a2c96d4ab5e6bf7eabd93a775470e90da7f3807adJmltdHM9MTc4OTYwMzIwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=37227d9f-6783-657e-06d6-6a48669c6408&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYmJjLmNvLnVrL2NvbW1pc3Npb25pbmcvZG9jdW1lbnRzL2RvY3Rvci13aG8taW52aXRhdGlvbi10by10ZW5kZXItc2VwdGVtYmVyLTIwMjYuZG9jeA

The year according to Peter Haining’s ‘Doctor Who: The Key to Time’ — Today in 1970: Again Peter’s dates are a little out – the Autons handing out plastic daffodils in Chalfont St Peter was filmed the previous day. The circus filming today was at Robert Brothers’ in Leyton…

No I cant...It reminds of one of those Autons from Doctor Who...they frightened the fuck out of me!
September 16, 2026 at 9:31 AM
Someone at the BBC should have pitched a story where the Tardis materializes in early 60's Disneyland, and the Doctor teams up with Walt while saving everyone from the Autons while the show was still swimming in Disney dollars.

So. 3rd Doctor. Terror of the Autons.
Ep 1: Blond with purple cape. Ep 2: blond with red cape. Ep3: blond with red cape. Ep 4: Gray with Red Cape.

burglars stealing the button from my blazer before my Mum could sew it back on
Autons / the Kinks song "Plastic Man"[1]
splinters from the Ice Queen's mirror[2]
slow poison[3]
dreams
existential isolation in the reality of the present moment[4]

That episode of The Smurfs where they got ill and turned beige

A benign family friend called Auntie Alice
Bungle
Things I was frightened of as a child:

Static on the television
Having to go down into the cellar to get a beer for my dad
The 999 theme tune
Wasps

1) "Witch hat" roundabouts.
2) Illus. of "The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall."
3) The Autons.
4) Cave Hill erupting (I'd been told it was a dormant volcano).
5) Cathy's ghost at the window when I ill-advisedly read WUTHERING HEIGHTS at the age of ten.
