When kid1 was like 6 a boy on his AYSO team had two moms and I said yeah he has two moms sometimes two women get married and sometimes two men and he said ok and asked for ice cream and I feel like it went ok....

my ex coached one of our son's AYSO teams and instituted a "only yell positive encouragement at kids during games" rule.
one dad was so offended he couldn't boss the kids around at top volume. the kids played MUCH better when adults weren't screaming conflicting directions from the sidelines.

Yesterday, I reffed 3 AYSO games, coached my younger daughter’s team, and watched my older daughter’s game. 5 AYSO games in 1 day.
My big takeaway: yelling at 8-11 year olds to do stuff or scolding them for not doing things, is far less effective than praising them when they work hard/make a play.
