No, they always give in the fabric along the seam in the groin, it’s friction. I take a few mm out, blanket stitch the edge to hold it and then backstitch along the line to make it secure. Then I put in strengthening patches where the cloth is thin but hasn’t get gone through. Seems to work!

Finished the cross stitch - now doing the backstitch (that's the lines added over the top of the cross stitches). So far I've only done the butterfly backstitch and a bit on the white flowers, got a few sprigs, the birds and the bees still to do.

also it makes following an exact line (such as you might want a seam to be to create nice smooth shapes in smaller plushes esp) a lot harder!
the backstitch allows you to pull it tight and the back-and-forth nature allows for coverage & strength against tension, as well as following lines well

So if the whole area of destruction is a 3x3 inch square you want at least a 4x4 inch patch.

I like that idea. It wouldn’t be very visible with the white stitches of the ghost, but I could add a backstitch of glow-in-the-dark!

Plus there was a spool of red thread in the same box so I also fixed the pocket on the Red Power Ranger hoodie I got at the Tekko fleamarket. The edge of one pocket was loose, just needed like an inch and a half of the edge sewn back down and it's good as new, and I still remember how to backstitch

i drop those thumbnails into csp and sketch the whole thing digitally, then print & fold it to see if anything is too close to the edges, and make sure things are a legible size (backstitch really pushed the limits of what is reasonable lol)
then i make the adjustments i need and finish it up :3
