I decided to keep my backyard pond running through the winter this year. It’s not even two years old yet, and last year I shut it down for the season. With the snow and freezing temps, I guess I’ll find out if that was a good idea or not. 🧊🐟

Inside the tub is a black pump with a large black pipe attached and a large drill with a red 2 inch hole saw connected to it. Bucket has a number of round holes in the front. Three on top and two on the bottom. The bottom ones are for the pipe to exit the boxaround the box is dirty rubber black liner underneath the box is pebble. A slightly wider shot shows the box inside of the hole sitting on top of pebble with the large pipe, sneaking out and up the side of the hole. On the left is a separating bank before a larger hole.

I think I moved about a yard of drain rock into the filter this morning, but I have stopped now due to the smoke rolling in. :(

Probably need 4-5 more cart loads before I switch to the top layer of pebble.

The barrier between the pool and the intake bay is now 99% covered. Which makes the entire surface area look much larger.

this will be the most water the system will ever hold since the next job after adjusting the levels this first time will be to bring in literal tons of rock, pebble and sand to fill the intake bay, the bog filter and line the pool.
