Also, Bakerloop 😎

I take the Bakerloop one if timings at bus-stops smile upon me... very comfortable in the heat, and in general.
It only shaves off about 6 minutes from the journey time on ordinary buses though (for me).

Absolutely. It's a bit like the Bakerloop bus in London - establishes that there's a need for the service but on existing infrastructure - which may make the business case for a rail link stronger in future.

BL1 Bakerloop is fantastic, it's basically an X53 between Lewisham and Waterloo - got seats on both journeys.

🚌📈 The Mayor of #London Sadiq Khan has revealed passenger demand for the Bakerloop BL1 bus. Since its September 2025 launch, demand peaked at 148,775 in Period 9. Despite some free fares initially, total revenue across the four periods reached £422,822.

A rare trip on the Bakerloop bus. It was dark so no pics but a few developments stood out. Work on site opposite Lidl (where a Bakerloo line station proposed) underway for approved towers.

Also site near Asda has come on a long way.

Tube extension really is needed

Yeah, it's not really part of a loop (same with the Bakerloop). But it was there before the rest of the express service, and the inspiration for it I reckon.

What exists there now is a regular stopping bus, Bakerloop by contrast is limited stop. The 16 and 41 buses are so busy from what I remember when I visited Dublin, they clearly aren't enough for the demand.
January 25, 2026 at 2:22 PM
Let's look at route lengths:

Bakerloo line extension 7.5 km (4.66 mi)
Bakerloop BL1 9.7 km (6.03 mi)
Dublin Metrolink 19.4 km (12.06 mi)
SL7 (formerly London Buses route X26): 38.22 km (23.75 mi)

An express bus could run as one route since SL7 is the longest London Bus route.

As #London expands its #Superloop express bus network, should Ireland’s NTA launch a similar route parallel to the proposed #Dublin MetroLink? This could serve as a "live demonstration" of the corridor's potential, much like the Bakerloop did for London’s Bakerloo line extension. 🚌

If the Bakerloop is the answer to “we don’t have the money to build the Bakerloo line, but we need more capacity”, then what is the answer to “we don’t have money to make A2 safe to cycle on, but we need to”? It’s already 20mph, two people have been arrested in these crashes. Is it enforcement? Hmm.
