Went to the Clayton hotel in Ballybrit and was going to have dinner in the hotel bar - until I saw a sign in the doorway saying that the bar was for hotel residents only. Have never come across that before. Very odd. So I went to supermacs.

Galway tech firm Channelscaler to create 50 new jobs
Galway tech firm Channelscaler to create 50 new jobs
Channelscaler, a Galway city-based software business, is creating 50 new jobs over the next year. Founded by Kenneth Fox in 2012 and based in Ballybrit Business Park, the company has 120 staff and has raised $70 million (€60 million) in funding to date. The business has developed a software platform to make it easier to run business partner programmes. “When a company starts, it uses salespeople to find customers. As it scales up, there comes a point where it will turn to indirect selling, also known as selling through the channel. They turn to resellers and develop a partner programme,” Fox told the Business Post. “Our platform automates all of the rules of the partner programme. Those programmes can get quite sophisticated and complex. Our platform makes it easier for partners to work with the programme, making it easier for the company making the product to reach the end customer.” Fox had worked in many multinationals that used a broad range of resellers. Having developed experience managing partner programmes across these, Fox recognised there was a method to make it easier to manage these networks. “We’re a born-in-the-cloud company. Our platform is used by hundreds of vendors globally to deliver their partner programmes. In the early days it was an idea that we crystallised by doing consultancy with some companies to validate the idea,” Fox said. “We knew early on, particularly with my tech background, that we needed to go to Silicon Valley to get customers. We first went to the Bay Area in 2014 to make sales. That led to us shutting down the consultant work and we have been product-focused ever since.” The company began operations in University of Galway before going remote during Covid. The growth that came during that spell led to the business realising it had outgrown its old office and it moved to Ballybrit. “We’ve basically doubled in size every two years for the last six or eight years,” Fox said. The business took on investment last year, including from Invictus Growth Partners. That led to the company merging with Allbound, an Atlanta-based business in the same sector. “The market was quite fragmented. With the two of us coming together, we effectively doubled overnight and scale matters in our business. We’ve taken the best of both brands and released a unified platform earlier this year,” Fox said. Channelscaler is supported by Enterprise Ireland and Fox said the agency had provided substantial assistance to the business. “We’re pretty much a 100 per cent export-driven company with North America being our biggest market. Enterprise Ireland has a great presence on the ground across many cities. I used to use their office in Mountain View in the Bay Area before we had our own there,” he said. “They’re great at networking and events, rounding up tech companies that we can meet. One of the deals we closed earlier this year came about having first met them at an Enterprise Ireland event.” Fox is keen to drive the business forward quickly, with substantial growth plans in place to acquire more customers. “Our goal is to be the number one player in the market. We have announced 50 new jobs across product development, research and development, customer success and more areas,” Fox said.
