Bard warns Thranduil that as a man of the lake, his feet disagree with the idea of dancing, to which Thranduil responds that Bard is a king so his feet must come to accept the way things are. Regardless, Bard trips and bumps his head against Thranduil's face, briefly flustering them both before Thranduil smirks in amusement. Bard asks if he is smirking at him, and Thranduil agrees, teasing Bard for throwing himself at the elf so shamelessly, which Bard grumbles he shouldn't look so pleased about it.

Thranduil is talking about the papers and Bard responds in agreement before accidentally calling Thranduil 'my love' instead of 'my lord', but quickly corrects himself like nothing happened. Thranduil, however, doesn't let it go, and comments on the strange slip of the tongue. Bard insists on ignoring it out of his own embarrassment, so Thranduil ends up pointing out that elves have impeccable hearing, and then he quotes Bard by calling him 'my love' for emphasis. Embarrassed, Bard protests again, insisting finally that he said 'my lord', which is not true.
