"You small, barkless companion animal" is 100% an insult that Brian Blessed has yelled at an inferior actor at some point in the past 60 years.

Nevermore!! -- it's hard to get more Halloween than this gorgeous goth bird. Common Ravens are found in myths and legends (and poetry) throughout the world. #BirdOfTheDay #FrightfulFeathers #Birds #Corvids #ECK
A Common Raven perched on a dead branch in a live tree, its bill tiled upward and partially open, mid-croak. It is facing the camera with its head turned slightly towards the left frame. Its feathers look glossy and almost oily due to their slight iridescence. If you zoom in you can see an indistinct reflection of sky and forest in its eye. The branch it is on is partially barkless & the trunks and branches next to and behind it are moss-covered. Further behind it are less distinct branches and yellowish leaves with dappled lighting.

I've never met a Basenji, as far as I know.

We had a big ol' hardback book about dog breeds with black-and-white photos — it may even have been an AKC publication, or something similarly official? — and I recall only the "barkless" description.

Basenjis are sometimes described as "barkless dogs." Turns out that's not the whole story, however.

"It's true, they don't bark, but they make their feelings known with an odd sound described as something between a chortle and a yodel."

Luna misbehaved a tiny bit and they were deeply gracious about it.
my dog is usually barkless and well-behaved but.
so many cool looking people to greet right there at the door overwhelmed her.
one of the poll workers actually bent down to talk to Luna face to face.
while the other assisted me.♿
this is Luna dog at a dog Saturday and she is in blue light, she is pick me up size on purpose because I really shouldn't pick up heavy things? and the whole point I think of having a fluffy dog is to occasionally carry them around like this.

A neighbor tells me that he's lived here since he was a child, and in all that time the creek only started going dry a few summers ago 😢

It was cool, though, to walk up the creek a ways to see parts of the forest the water had kept from me […]

[Original post on social.mossmelomind.com]
A forest stream bed, currently dry, seen from ground level. The channel floor is packed with smooth grey and blue-grey river cobbles and pebbles, scattered with fallen yellow, orange, and brown leaves, plus a few thin bare twigs lying across the stones. On the left, a thick fallen log angles diagonally into the frame from the lower-left corner, its bark stripped to pale weathered wood and heavily carpeted in bright green moss along its upper surface, with bare branch stubs protruding. Behind it, a much larger dead log spans the channel horizontally, its deeply cracked, grey-brown wood bridging the whole width and forming a low arch over the dry bed. Beneath and behind that trunk, a darker, wet-looking log lies partly buried in the gravel, with several broken branches sticking up at angles. Beyond the logs, the bed continues into the distance where a small patch of water or damp ground is faintly visible among the stones. Both banks rise steeply and are crowded with dense green vegetation: sword ferns and moss-covered trunks on the left, leafy shrubs and saplings on the right. Above, a canopy of bright green foliage frames a narrow strip of pale, overcast white sky. Soft, diffuse daylight; no shadows. Vertical composition, wide-angle view from very low to the ground. A close, low-angle view of a dry forest stream bed choked with grey river rock. The foreground is a broad expanse of rounded cobbles and gravel dotted with scattered yellow and tan autumn leaves and a few small dry sticks. Dominating the middle of the frame are two massive fallen tree trunks lying roughly parallel, spanning the channel from left to right. The nearer trunk crosses the upper-left portion diagonally; both are stripped of bark, showing pale, silvered, deeply checked and splintered grain, with patches of green moss growing along their tops. Together they form a rough, irregular archway framing the view downstream. A broken, angled branch stub rises from the near trunk near the centre-right, and thinner bare branches splay outward from the logs' ends. Underneath the arch, another dark, waterlogged log rests on the gravel, with a curved root or branch hooking upward from it. Through the gap beneath the trunks, the dry bed continues into the distance, narrowing between banks of vivid green grass and low shrubs. Dense forest fills both sides: conifer branches and ferns on the left, layered green foliage on the right, with hints of yellowing leaves suggesting early autumn. Overhead, bright green canopy partially covers a flat, overcast white sky. Even, shadowless light; slightly fisheye-like wide-angle distortion. Horizontal composition.

These pics are incredible, I’m barkless.

Is Pebble an actual stunt dog? He can almost touch the sky and he can fly! What a cool guy! 🐾🤩😎

Cloaked in rime and shadow, the old watcher folds inward, listening to the deep pulse of the earth beneath the roots. 🪶🌿🦉🐦🍁
A full-length photograph of a Great Blue Heron perched on a weathered, barkless log extending over a murky green river or pond. The bird is captured in a humorous, awkward pose, with its long neck tightly compressed and curved downward against its chest. Its sharp, yellowish beak points straight down, making the heron look as though it is shrugging dramatically or looking downward in a sheepish, exaggerated manner. Its shaggy blue-grey feathers are slightly ruffled, and its long, thin legs grip the log firmly. The background features dark, shadowy foliage along the water's edge, highlighting the bright green color of the water's surface. #Birds #GreatBlueHeron #Wildlife #OhMyDouglas #TOPhoto #WildSauga #SolitaryWanderer #GreyVeil #MythologyOfNature
