An open sketchbook, showing two pages of blue lined sketches depicting an exaggerated, top heavy muscular character standing around. The subject, Claus leSable, is tall and broad, with long thin legs holding up a barrel chest, thick arms and a Moai-like stone head. The left page explores Claus’s character design, with artist’s notes comparing him to the tall dancing figures in Ernie Barnes painting “The Sugar Shack.” Claus has a stern, hard to read facial expression and is holding a wine goblet tilted close to the chest. Several sketches show Claus from a worm’s eye view, using tricks of positioning to stand in for expressiveness. Some show a glint where an eye should be, shown when something has Claus’s attention. The right page tests drawing Claus’s whole body standing from a front view. The artist has annotated several sketches noting proportion mistakes and failures when capturing the character’s likeness. One drawing on this page stylizes Claus by assembling the character’s face and body out of stark, angular lines. The artist has marked this drawing as “Interesting!” and pursued the idea on the left page, leading to the Sugar Shack influence in Claus’s body shape. A sketchbook spread with drawings of the gallery mascots of @blkmkt.net and @penbee.art, featuring both their SFW and NSFW mascots. From right to left are HB the Snail, a feminine anthropomorphic snail, Claus leSable, a masculine living statue with a Moai style head, Quill, a feminine anthropomorphic Bee and Apparition, a masculine ghost emanating from a frowning skull. These drawings show the mascots dressed for their jobs. HB and Claus are mostly nude (they are not safe for work) save for a helmet on HB to indicate blue collar work and a name tag on Claus to indicate white collar work. HB is shown operating machinery, wearing a high-vis vest and nothing else. An annotation for HB reads "Works at the 'how it's made' factory" and another for Claus reads "Works at 'Embezzlement incorporated'." On the left page, Quill the Bee is dressed in a sharp suit with padded shoulders and a pencil skirt, to imply white collar work. She has four arms and is posed to show them off, with one drawing showing Quill enjoying a cup of coffee. Next to Quill is Apparition, who is wearing a tie and a helmet to perform blue collar tasks. One drawing shows him wiping a window with a sour look on his face. A sketchbook spread with nude drawings of @inkjelly.art's gallery mascot HB the Snail and her boyfriend, Basic Bear. These drawings show HB, an anthropomorphic, feminine snail, casually eating what appears to be a snack bag labeled "rat poison". Basic, a muscular, masculine bear, is voicing his disapproval. A fun fact about snails reads "Snails love to eat rat poison" above a drawing of HB with a much fatter figure winking at the audience. More drawings imagine a BBW style HB, nude and glowing, with large sagging breasts. Along with fat HB are some bulked up Basics, showing a bodybuilder's physique wth extra fat, a double chin and more pronounced belly. Two drawings show each reacting to the other's fatter body with affection and lust, and two others show them at the gym. Basic is using a pec deck machine to do chest flys and HB is doing pushups, with Basic watching her form. They work out together.

Pages from the latest sketchbook, a thick A5 book with 660 pages. The strategy for this book has been to do drawing study in the front of the book and character art in the back to help overcome blank page anxiety.

An open sketchbook showing two pages of nude character sketches and assorted notes about them. The left page is full of erotic practice sketches of HB, a feminine, anthropmorphic snail. Sketches include different views of HB laying prone while craning her head up to look at someone in front of her, with focus on her back and butt, as well as a few of her laying supine, hanging off of a bed, with focus on her hanging breasts. One rough sketch shows HB supine, licking the base of her boyfriend's testicles while he is in a prone position on top of her. The right page comprises practice drawings of Persimmon the Lesser, a horned demon with a chubby build. The drawings focus on Persimmon's defining his proportions and attempting to pose him while keeping those proportions intact. An open sketchbook showing two pages of nude character sketches and assorted notes about them. The left page shows front and profile views of Persimmon the Lesser, a horned demon with a dad bod. The right page is filled with sketches of HB the Snail, an anthropomorphic character, with focus directed at the soles of her feet, her buttocks and her breasts. An open sketchbook showing two pages of nude character sketches. The left page focuses on Prickle the Cactusmaid, a tall, thin, feminine character with a circular cactus for a head. The page contains layout drawings of her torso with diagrams describing the form of her abs and shoulders, shown as if her arms were translucent. The right page contains drawings of Persimmon the Lesser, a horned demon with a dad bod, with many drawings of him from the front to see what proportions work best for the character. An open sketchbook showing two pages of exploratory character drawings. The left page comprises many facial expression tests of a feminine anthropomorphic snail, HB the snail, with some bust drawings and thumbnails for illustration ideas. The right page shows similar expression and acting shots of HB's boyfriend, Basic the Bear, an anthropmorphic bear. One faint sketch shows Basic in a prone position with his hips raised suggestively and his eyes focused behind him.

Keeping several sizes of sketchbook helps with concentration while traveling. The usual collection consists of two pocket sketchbooks, two A5s and an A4 book, but recently added B5s in the rotation. SFW & NSFW are separated, hence the number of books.

Photo of an open A5 sketchbook spread containing, from left to right, bust drawings of a masculine, living statue, Claus leSable, viewed from several angles and design sketches of an anthropomorphic couple, HB the Snail and Basic the Bear. The statue character has a face like a Moai attached to a large muscular frame and the left page is filled with test drawings with annotations. The page with the couple mostly focuses on the larger Basic the Bear, with his girlfriend HB shown to establish his tall stature and wide body. This page showcases Basic from angles the artist was struggling with, including worm's eye view head shots and several attempts at a profile view. Photo of an open pocket sketchbook filled with studies of Basic the Bear's face and skull. Basic's head and neck form a simple sausage shape with interruptions from his snout, ears and angular sideburn tufts depending on how he's positioned in a scene, and the artist has attempted to understand what underlying structure would consistently yield this result. Photo of a pocket sketchbook open to a spread of sketches of the artist's NSFW mascot, Claus leSable. leSable is a living statue with a Moai style head and is depicted nude but featureless on these pages. These page focus on tilting the character's neck and minor reclined actions. Several sketches of a nude anthropomorphic bear named Basic, with half a page of annotated busts in blue and black pencil. The sketches constitute a character study, with most attempts rejected in scribbled annotations.
