The image depicts two oxen standing side by side on a dirt path. The foreground shows the full body of one cow, while only part of another is visible behind it. Both animals have long, curved horns and appear to be tethered with ropes or chains around their necks. One can see clear musculature in the legs and lower torso of the closest oxen, indicative of strength and robustness. The setting appears rural, possibly a farm or ranch given the open field that extends into the distance under an overcast sky. In black and white format, which adds to its vintage aesthetic appeal, this photograph captures a moment from everyday life on a working farm in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, as part of the Ox team that hauls pulpwood. This historical context suggests it's likely taken during or shortly after Dorothea Lange’s photographic documentation period known for documenting various aspects of American society and culture particularly in rural areas throughout her career which lasted from approximately 1925 to around 1943.
