BBC Introducing has announced a month-long programme of live events across 10 UK locations to support emerging artists, following the decision to remove their stage from the Reading & Leeds festival after 18 years. The initiative will feature performances, workshops, educational panels, open mic sessions, and networking opportunities in Belfast, Bridgend, Gateshead, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Nottingham, and Sunderland, running throughout November. This move comes after the BBC confirmed the axing of the iconic BBC Introducing Stage at Reading & Leeds, which had previously launched careers for artists such as Ed Sheeran and The 1975. The BBC stated that the decision aimed to diversify support for up-and-coming talent, with the Canopy stage now hosting musicians from a broader pool. The programme will begin in Bridgend and London on November 5, culminating in four showcases in Leeds on November 28. BBC Introducing also continues collaborations with festivals like Latitude and The Great Escape. The initiative underscores its role in nurturing unsigned artists through platforms such as the Uploader service and radio programmes, having contributed to the rise of acts including RAYE, Olivia Dean, and Loyle Carner. Despite recent cuts to local programmes, the BBC remains committed to fostering creativity and artistic growth.
