#beatingwomen
Ahh, the period before they banned any subs, including areas of intellectual esteem like /r/BeatingWomen and /r/Jailbait, not to mention all of the *exclusively racist* subreddits.

On a causal visit, Facebook will be much worse. Reddit, however had things like r/jailbait, r/GasTheKikes, and r/beatingwomen, not to mention stuff like doxxing the family of the person they suspected of being the Boston Bomber.

I was on 4chan back in the day when 4chan was considered a less scummy place than reddit, because reddit refused to crack down on CP and subreddits like r/beatingwomen, but 4chan would report that stuff to the fbi on sight. Then reddit went publicly traded and had to clean up its act.

Anytime Reddit comes up as something people think is supposed to be a positive example or helpful place or tight community, I think about how long it took for Reddit to start banning Nazi subreddits or beatingwomen or jailbait or the various subreddits that were just a racial slur

nah. reddit was massively improved by killing/neutralising whiterights, stormfront, jailbait and beatingwomen

These were people who were involved in operating the r/rapingwomen and r/beatingwomen subreddits, along with a slate of other horrible subreddits

Huh, fascinating. I didn't know that.

I quiet-quit Reddit back in 2012 with how prominent and voiciferous their various sexist subredits are (r/mensrights, r/beatingwomen, etc).

It's nice to see a part of the internet change for the better.

it was very black pilling as a teen girl for "the front page of the internet" to be filled with stuff like /r/jailbait and /r/beatingwomen and to see the smug face of fully adult tech men saying things like "well, freeze peach,"
